UltraVNC - The Ultimate Tech Helper
I love UltraVNC - I perform quite a bit of computer services and now I am branching out into the remote support arena with UltraVNC. I have been using UltraVNC SC - This is a mini VNC server that has been customized with my configuration to reach me at my desktop.
The biggest feature of UltraVNC SC it does not require any installation and doesn"t make use of the registry. The Customer only has to download a small executable(Mine is 400k) Then they click on the connection and then the connection is initiated by the server to allow easy access thru the customers firewall.
First - What is UltraVNC:
UltraVNC is an easy to use, fast and free software that can display the screen of another computer (via internet or network) on your own screen. The program allows you to use your mouse and keyboard to control the other PC remotely. It means that you can work on a remote computer, as if you were sitting in front of it, right from your current location.
Second - How secure is UltraVNC???
- The SC version is initiated by the person that shares his/her desktop: they need to voluntary click to initiate the connection.
- You can use up to 128bit encryption. The encryption level depends on the OS and installed MS Crypto API
- The Server can only connect to the IP address you have predefined.
- No incoming connections, no unattended service connection.
- SC is automatically and systematically uninstalled when the connection is closed
SC can do file transfers to and from the remote PC
Since SC is not run as a service and CAN NOT be run as a service there is no logon or Ctrl-Alt-Delete support
I recommend getting this free program from UltraVNC and setting up a copy that allows you to be connected to your pc. So the next time your parents or friends need some computer help they can run the SC version and you will be on their PC in a matter of mins instead of a drive over there.
