Lintop - Linux-Based Diskless Computer.
I was trying to help a friend that was trying to find an easy to use cheap inexpensive computer for his mom to use for the web and email. Well without trying this thing out - I don't know how easy or hard this will be for her but this really is one pretty cool looking computer.
First, the Lintop is a completely silent, low power, extremely small, diskless, Linux - Based Computer. From the quote on the limited info on the webpage this computer's main purpose is to surf the Internet.
This PC includes - Abiword - Evince PDF reader - Firefox Web browser - Gaim instant messenger - & Totem media player. Pretty much everything you would need to Surf the web, possibly do some work on a document, view photos from your digital camera, upload them to the web, play some music & videos from the web or from the USB port, And with all the new online editors and storage, (Such as Google Docs, Google Spreadsheet, 30 Boxes, or any of the other AJAX / Web 2.0 work solutions)
The Linutop is run from a hand size box that connects up to a VGA monitor, 4x USB 2.0 Ports, 512MB ROM, 256MB RAM, 100 Base T Ethernet Connection, An Audio In and Out Connector (For Microphone and Headset or Speakers), Expandable to USB2, WIFI, And Flat Panel Monitor.
Depending on the price of this unit - I can really see this being used in School Libraries, some small businesses, Internet cafes, Even at home (Hey don't need to boot up the pc to check your latest blog entry and your email or even to check out the latest videos on YouTube - You can do this from pretty much anywhere as long as you have a High Speed connection)
You can check out their Website (but it is pretty sparse right now)
