Content Filtering: Part 2: ScrubIT

I was just told via an email about how their kids got around their blocking the internet. Their kids were smarter and made a linux boot disk and started using firefox from the boot disk.

Well, This will defeat any of the software that you may have installed to prevent the kid or even your husband or any of your employees from getting to the BAD sites online.

Well ScrubIT has a solution. Put the protection into your router. Make sure you know your routers password for this as you will need to have it to modify the setting. But you will again make sure the people you want to keep the BAD pages away from also DOES NOT know the password to reset this back.

ScrubIT has a software program to install this onto your computer but I would not recommend it. I only recommend adding the settings into your router.

If you need help setting up your router. OpenDNS.com has good instructions on how to set the DNS Settings on your router. But remember USE the Setting from ScrubIT.

Which are :

67.138.54.100

207.225.209.66

Once you have this setup in your router you can test it by going to a popular no safe for work page. and you should see this message

Scrub it Page

  1. Great Tip, with two young children you cannot do enough to protect them…Thank You…

  2. Just do a Google search for porn or any other vulgar words and phrases and you’ll be surprised how many sites are not being “scrubbed.” I reported hundreds of porn sites to Scrubit yet they’re still accessible. I think they have a good idea that just needs to be fully implemented. Until they do it’ll remain an ineffective porn filter.
