Using dual monitors with Windows XP

Dual Monitor Setup - Multi-Monitor Oscar - Ultramon

Dual Monitor systems - Everyone has seen one in the movies and have wished to have your computer setup with dual monitors.

Well technically it is not that hard to setup and install. By default Windows XP will support dual monitors fairly well. But there are a few things that lack when letting Windows handle the setup.

There is a freeware Utility called Oscar's Multi-monitor Taskbar that rounds out what windows is missing and throws in a few extras. This program add a secondary task bar to the bottom of the second screen - Windows XP only allows one start bar on the main screen. The application open on that window will show on the respective start bar. Oscar's Multi-Monitor Taskbar add buttons to the tops of the windows allowing you to switch the program between windows using the Left Arrow or Right Arrow. The new taskbar also also included a clipboard manager so if you copy items to memory you can recall them via the taskbar (Can be turned off But I like it) of course the Time is on the right hand of each monitor. The new taskbar can also be set to auto-hide if you prefer that. The last feature is Oscar's Multi-Monitor supports up to 3 monitors  (Secondary) - (Primary) - (Secondary) - The primary monitor will always be the middle monitor.

You can Download this software at: MediaChance.com

Additional Dual Monitor Information Can be found at: Wikipedia

Enhanced Shareware can be found at: RealTimeSoft.com - UltraMon Cost is $39.99 - This is a little more polished then Oscar's Multi-Mon - But for my setup Oscar's Is more then enough and will be for most people. But it is nice to have alternatives available if needed.

  1. I want to run an application on the second monitor. I get the short cut to bring up the app but it runs on the primary monitor. How do I move it to the second one? Help if you can. Thanks for your software. Have not tried it but will soonest.

  2. Drag it through the left “edge” of the screen and keep moving the mouse left, then it will reappear on the other one

to bring it back to main screen drag it through the side of the secondary one and back onto the main one :D
